Short answer: the best Draw Things alternatives on iPhone are Conjure if you want something free and simple, PhoneDiffusion or Oasis SoloGen AI if you want photo editing tools in an easier app, and LocalGen or Off Grid AI if you have an iPhone 12 or 13. All of them generate on the device and work offline once their models are downloaded, per their listings. None of them matches Draw Things’ depth, so pick one for what it does better, not for more features.
Prices on this page were re-read on the US App Store on October 1, 2026. The other details come from the listings and official pages we read for our roundup of offline AI image generators for iPhone on September 30, 2026. Onhand, the app this site is for, is pre-launch and not on the App Store yet, so it is described separately and not ranked against apps you can install today.
- Too many settings in Draw Things: Conjure, LocalGen or Mortal AI
- Editing your own photos, simply: PhoneDiffusion, Oasis SoloGen AI or Aista
- One purchase instead of plans: Oasis SoloGen AI ($9.99 unlock)
- An iPhone 12 or 13: LocalGen or Off Grid AI
- Images next to local chat and voice: Off Grid AI
What you give up when you leave Draw Things
Draw Things, from Draw Things, Inc., is free for iPhone, iPad and Mac on iOS 15.4 or later. Its listing says local creation needs no internet and no subscription, and that prompts and images stay on the device. It supports a long list of model families, imports community models and LoRAs, trains LoRAs on the device, and offers ControlNet, inpainting, outpainting and video. Optional cloud compute is there if you want more power than your device has.
On October 1, 2026 its US App Store in-app purchases were Draw Things+ at $8.99 and Boost Bundles at $0.99, $4.99 and $19.99. None of them is needed to generate locally. That makes it hard to beat on price or power. The usual reasons to look elsewhere are the learning curve, wanting a short menu of tools, or an app that is built around one job.
Our Onhand vs Draw Things page covers that trade in detail for Onhand. This page is for the apps you can install today.

| Aista | You want style presets, photo restyling and inpainting on a recent device | Older devices and iOS versions: it needs iOS 26 and an iPhone 14 or newer | Free; $3.99 a month, $17.99 a year, or lifetime at $19.99 or $29.99 (App Store listing, ) | iPhone 14 or newer, iPad Air (5th generation) or iPad Pro (2021) and newer; iOS 26 or later |
| Mortal AI | You mostly want prompt-to-picture with a big library of ready-made styles | Editing: it is SDXL text-to-image with styles, negative prompts and seed control | Free features; Pro at $3.99 a week, $29.99 a year or $39.99 one time (App Store listing, ) | iPhone, iPad and Mac on iOS 17 or later; the listing recommends iPhone 14 Pro and newer |
| Onhand (pre-launch) | Coming soon (waitlist): you want a short menu and no cloud path at all | Not on the App Store yet, so nothing about it can be checked by you today | Planned: free download with a free fast model; Pro is a one-time purchase, no subscription | iPhone and iPad, iOS 26 or later |
If Draw Things has too many settings
Conjure is the closest thing to the opposite of Draw Things. It is free with no in-app purchases listed, runs an SDXL model (DreamShaper XL Lightning) on the device through Core ML, and needs no account and no internet after setup. It asks for 6 GB of RAM, so iPhone 13 Pro and newer or an M1 iPad Pro or iPad Air. See Onhand vs Conjure.
LocalGen keeps to text-to-image and reaches further back, to iPhone 12. Mortal AI is SDXL text-to-image with a large library of styles, negative prompts and seed control, and recommends iPhone 14 Pro and newer. Both sell Pro as a plan or a one-time purchase; see the table for prices. See Onhand vs LocalGen.
If you mainly edit your own photos
PhoneDiffusion lists text-to-image, live generation, inpainting, image-to-image, background removal and upscaling up to 4x, running Stable Diffusion 1.5 and SDXL models on the device. Version 3.7 added optional cloud models, so stick to the local ones if offline is the point. See Onhand vs PhoneDiffusion.
Oasis SoloGen AI makes text-to-image free and puts image-to-image with depth guidance, inpainting, 4x upscaling and face restoration behind one $9.99 purchase. Plan for about 16 GB of storage. Aista adds photo restyling and inpainting to style-preset generation, but needs iOS 26 and an iPhone 14 or newer.
Draw Things also does inpainting, and outpainting as well. These apps are worth it for a shorter path to the same kind of edit, not for extra capability.
If you have an older iPhone
Memory decides which models run, more than chip speed. LocalGen and Off Grid AI both say they support iPhone 12 or newer. LocalGen’s developer says iPhone 11 and earlier are not supported, even though the App Store compatibility list is wider. Draw Things lists iOS 15.4 or later, which is the widest support of any app here, so on a much older phone it may still be your best option. Our guide to whether AI image generation will run on your iPhone explains why.
If you want more than images
Off Grid AI, from Wednesday Solutions, is a free, open-source app that runs chat, vision, voice input and Stable Diffusion image generation on the phone. It works in airplane mode after a model download and can also use bigger models on a computer on your own network. The App Store lists it for iPhone only. Its website describes an optional paid tier; that price is not on the App Store listing, so it is not quoted here. See Onhand vs Off Grid AI.
Two you might expect to see here
Private Diffusion lists ten text-to-image models, including Flux.2 Klein 4B, and says it works offline once a model is downloaded. It is a TestFlight beta rather than an App Store app, it does not do image-to-image or inpainting, and every model needs at least 8 GB of memory. See Onhand vs Private Diffusion.
Apple Image Playground needs nothing installed, but it is not an offline alternative: in iOS 27 it runs on Private Cloud Compute, which needs a connection. See Onhand vs Apple Image Playground.
When to stay with Draw Things
- You use LoRAs, train your own, or steer images with ControlNet.
- You want outpainting or video.
- You want one app across iPhone, iPad and Mac.
- You are on an older iOS release than the alternatives support.
- You want all of that for free on local compute.
Check any offline claim yourself
Install the app and download its model on Wi-Fi. Turn on airplane mode, make sure Wi-Fi is off too, and generate. If an image appears, that run needed no server. Our guide to generating AI images offline on iPhone covers the full test, storage and battery.
Where Onhand fits
Onhand is built for people who find Draw Things too much: a short catalog of model packs, image generation and photo editing on the iPhone or iPad itself, no account and no cloud path to switch on. It is pre-launch. It is coming soon and not on the App Store, so treat it as a waitlist, not a pick. Join the waitlist below to hear when it ships, or read Onhand vs Draw Things for an honest look at what it will not do. FAQ
What is the best free alternative to Draw Things on iPhone?
Conjure. As listed on the US App Store on October 1, 2026, it is free with no in-app purchases listed, and it runs an SDXL model on the device with no account. It is much simpler than Draw Things and does far less: its photo editor applies style presets rather than precise edits. Off Grid AI is also free on the App Store if you want images as part of a local AI suite.
Is there a simpler app than Draw Things that still works offline?
Yes. Conjure, LocalGen and Mortal AI focus on text-to-image, and each says it generates on the device without a connection once set up. PhoneDiffusion and Oasis SoloGen AI add editing tools without the depth of Draw Things. Run the airplane-mode test on any of them before you rely on it.
Does any alternative do LoRA training or ControlNet like Draw Things?
Not among the App Store apps on this page. On October 1, 2026, none of their App Store listings mentions LoRA, ControlNet, outpainting or video. If you need those, Draw Things is still the app to use, and it is free for local generation.
Which Draw Things alternatives avoid a subscription?
As listed on October 1, 2026: Conjure lists no in-app purchases, Off Grid AI is free on the App Store, and Oasis SoloGen AI sells one $9.99 unlock. LocalGen ($29.99 lifetime), PhoneDiffusion ($24.99 lifetime), Aista ($19.99 or $29.99 lifetime) and Mortal AI ($39.99 one time) also sell a one-time option next to their plans. Draw Things itself needs no purchase for local generation.
Which alternatives run on an older iPhone?
LocalGen and Off Grid AI say they support iPhone 12 or newer. Draw Things lists iOS 15.4 or later, which is older than any alternative here. Conjure asks for 6 GB of RAM (iPhone 13 Pro and newer), Aista for iPhone 14 or newer on iOS 26, and Mortal AI recommends iPhone 14 Pro and newer.
Can I download Onhand as a Draw Things alternative today?
Not yet. Onhand is pre-launch: it is coming soon to iPhone and iPad and is not on the App Store. You can join the waitlist on this page to hear when it ships.
