Quick checks

A model will not download

Use a stable connection, confirm several gigabytes of free storage, keep the device powered, and retry from Models. Downloads are checksum-verified before installation.

Storage is running low

Open Models to remove packages you no longer use. Delete generated images from Gallery; copies saved to Photos are managed separately.

Generation is slow

Choose a faster model or lower effort level. Generation can slow while the iPhone is hot, low on power, or running other memory-intensive apps.

A model is unavailable

Model availability depends on your iPhone’s memory tier and the engines shipped in the current app version. The Models screen shows only compatible packages.

A photo cannot be edited

Photo editing is available only with supported models. Remove the reference photo and try text generation, or choose a model marked for editing.

An image was not saved

Saving to Photos happens only when you tap Save and grant add permission. Check Photos access in iOS Settings, then try saving again.

Frequently asked questions

Does Onhand upload my prompt or photo?

No. Prompts, source photos, and image generation remain on the iPhone. The app connects to the internet only for the model catalog and model packages you choose to download.

Why are model downloads so large?

Diffusion models contain billions of learned parameters. Onhand uses prepared packages for iPhone, but a package can still require several gigabytes of storage.

What does effort change?

Effort changes the number of denoising steps supported by the selected image model. It is a speed-and-detail control, not a reasoning setting like those used by language models.

Can I use the app offline?

Yes, after a compatible model is fully installed. Internet access is still needed to browse or download model packages.

How do I remove my data?

Delete images in Gallery, remove packages in Models, and delete saved copies in Photos separately. Deleting the app removes its remaining local container.

When reporting a problem

  1. Open Settings and note the Onhand version.
  2. Include your iPhone model and iOS version.
  3. Name the selected model, effort level, and finish.
  4. Describe what you expected and what happened instead.
  5. Mention whether retrying or restarting changed the result.
